Might not be tracking exactly—sounds more like your GPU or network can’t keep up with the resolution/bitrate combo you're pushing. Are you using HEVC or h.264? I found switching codecs actually made a bigger difference than expected.

I ran into this exact thing when I upgraded to a higher-res model. Looked amazing, but any movement felt like I was dragging through molasses. I dialed Virtual Desktop’s frame rate target down a bit and turned off smoothing—cleared it right up.

If your model starts moving like it’s underwater, Virtual Desktop might be going full slideshow mode. Tracking usually doesn’t cause that on its own unless your base stations are having an existential crisis at the same time.

Could be a few things—what’s your setup like? GPU, headset, connection type? Sometimes it’s not the tracking but how the frames are being delivered. There’s a pretty active VD Discord if you haven’t checked yet, they’ve helped me dial mine in.

Honestly, I’d test by lowering VD settings and loading a basic model. If it runs smooth, then it’s not tracking—it’s probably system overhead or compression lag. Tracking issues usually show up as jumps or delay, not slow framerates.

I tried doing a stream with Virtual Desktop and adjusted the resolution way too high. My model started lagging while the real me was moving fine. I’m guessing it’s a tracking or sync issue from pushing the settings? Also, what’s the best way to prevent lighting from messing with IR-based trackers? I’ve got a ring light that might be throwing everything off.

I have done the exact same thing. I pushed the resolution way too high once and my model was moving like a slideshow. Dropping it back down fixed it for me. And yeah, ring lights mess with tracking. I just pointed mine at the wall and it helped a lot.

I have played around with Virtual Desktop a lot, and yeah when I cranked the resolution too high, it basically choked the whole stream. The tracking sensors are probably fine, but the GPU and network just couldn’t keep up sending the frames. I usually tweak the bitrate first before messing with the resolution

@Starwarden Yeah I feel that. I did the same with my setup thought max settings would be cool but it just turned into lag central. And yeah, bouncing the light off the wall helped me too. These trackers are picky as hell.

@speedybee Same thing happened to me. Thought I was upgrading the visuals, ended up turning my stream into a slideshow. It’s not even the tracking’s fault most of the time. It’s just the PC sweating trying to keep up. I just lower it till it feels smooth again.

@speedybee The tracking itself might have been working fine, it’s probably just the video feed falling behind because of the high resolution setting. Your real movements are fine, but the stream can’t keep up, so it looks like the tracking’s off when really it’s just the display lagging.

Yeah, that could be the cause. High settings can stress your system and affect tracking. Try lowering the settings a bit and see if it smooths out sometimes less is more with Virtual Desktop.

@speedybee Yeah, cranking the resolution can definitely cause sync issues. Try dialing it back a bit. And yes, ring lights can mess with IR tracking. Diffuse the light or angle it away from your setup to help.
